Influences

Nicolas Poussin found inspiration everywhere. He studied the work of Raphael and was influenced in his paintings by him. His style transformed from this inspiration to more idealized. Poussin loved literature and used many stories as inspiration in his paintings. Many of his works illustrate Greek and Roman myths and scenes from the Old Testament.

Poussin's most popular subjects were scenes of an Arcadian idyll.

He also found inspiration in rural areas around Rome and used these scenes as inspiration to his work.
