Pop Art
George Segal was considered a Pop Artist during his career for two main reasons. One being his forms referenced popular culture in many ways while playing with the nod to classical form.
The second reason his forms took on this Pop Art style was the messages he conveyed through his work. By using the material of plaster his forms became white as ghost, the models having to sit for such lengthy times provided a tension within the sculpture, all pushing his ideas of bringing notice to the psychological mindset of people today. The sculptures convey boredom, solitude and rigid mindsets.
