Drip Painting

Pollock's drip paintings were his most famous pieces and were created during the late 40's into 1950. Unlike most artists Pollock became very famous while still alive.

Pollock's paintings were usually extremely large and he would leave them lay on the floor and move around them to drip or splatter the color on. He would also use traditional household paint instead of artist's paints.

Many questioned Pollock's drip method as uncontrolled, however he always stated it was very purposeful. He indicated he always knew exactly where he wanted the paint to land and planned every inch.

He got very tired of viewers trying to "see" images in his paintings or guess what he was thinking. Therefore, Pollock began number his paintings to eliminate that from continuing.
