Painter and Draftswoman
Georgia O'Keeffe was a highly influential female artist. Her work was very independent of any stylistic art movements which is why she falls under Modernism.
She knew when she graduated high school she wanted to be an artist. Attended the Art Institute of Chicago. She studied art under an artist, Arthur Wesley Dow. He taught her about abstraction and different nontraditional ways to think of art.
She was an art teacher and created abstract charcoal pieces for two years as she experimented. O'Keeffe began to lose her eyesight in her 70s but continued to paint stating she could still see her subjects in her mind.
