Styles of
Masks

African masks were 3 different styles.

Vertical - Worn vertically covering the face

Helmet - Worn on top of the head. During the dance, the

person tilts their head down to only show the
mask and not themselves.

Crest - Worn on the forehead Not covering the dancers

face fully. Again the dancer would put head
down to evoke the mask.
