Watercolor Artist

He began watercolor painting because of Chinese influence. He was staying at a hotel in New York and had just seen an exhibition of Chinese watercolors that inspired him. He went back to the hotel and began watercolor painting. He painted the view from his room and asked friends to sit for him.

Chinese watercolor artists believed it should flow from your hand, eye and heart, so that philosophy led Hockney on his watercolor journey.
