da Vinci was not his last name it means of Vinci, the city.

He learned bone/muscle structure by doing autopsies. This was illegal and permission had to be given by the Catholic church. He was given this right and used it to become a better artist.

The two pieces to the right are both DaVinci's artworks. The top is a sketch study he created prior to the final piece below. He is an artist who always sketched first and created these gesture drawings of his work. When his work is studied and examined now a lot of layers are found below with different paintings or variations of the painting.
